The Croatian National Olympic Committee has turned the page on Zlatko Mateša. In office since 2002, he has officially handed over the presidency to Josip Varvodić. Varvodić has been elected against Dragan Primorac with 81 votes, against 68 for his opponent, during the elective General Assembly in Zagreb. He is the fourth president in the history of the NOC, following in the footsteps of Antun Vrdoljak (1991-2000), Zdravko Hebel (2000-2002) and therefore Zlatko Mateša (2002-2026).
Varvodić is only 41 years old, but already has a certain stature. He is currently first vice-president of European Aquatics, a member of the board of World Aquatics and president of the Croatian Swimming FederationIn parallel, he also practices as a cardiothoracic surgeon in Zagreb.
