The presence of climbing as an additional sport at the Tokyo 2020 Games is already being felt spectacularly in… China. According to a study carried out for the site Sohu.com, 100 new clubs were opened in the country in 2017 alone, bringing the number of structures dedicated to climbing on Chinese territory to 350. At the same time, the number of trainers increased by 52% between 2016 and 2017. As for the climbing shoe market, it saw a 20% jump over the last year. In Beijing, clubs can no longer cope with demand, despite increasingly numerous practice hours being offered.
