Games calendar, influencers, women's representation: the results of the OCA AGM

Asia

The General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia Now that the conference is over, it is time to take stock. In addition to the presentations made by the IOC, Olympic Solidarity and WADA President Witold Banka, the Association of National Olympic Committees has put a major topic on the table: the Asian Games schedule. ANOC wants all continental Games to serve as qualification for the Olympic GamesThe problem is that in Asia, they take place two years before the Olympic Games. The next edition will take place in 2026, in Aichi-Nagoya.

The calendar of other continents is more relevant from a sporting perspective since the European Games, the African Games and the Pan American Games will all take place in 2027. "We have a cycle of Asian Games and have concluded contracts with host cities until the 2034 Games. But we are considering changing the year the Asian Games are held. We need to finalize this process.", said OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam.

The OCA also announced that mental sports, such as chess, could be included in the program of the Asian Games and the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in the future. The organization has also expressed interest in using the influencers to promote the Asian Games and, less pleasantly, informed that only six of the 45 Asian NOCs have at least 30% female representation, in accordance with IOC guidelines. After Kuwait this year, the next General Assembly will be held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in 2026.
