History is in progress. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) announced Monday August 29 that it had awarded the Swedish city of Östersund the hosting of the Para Nordic Ski World Championships in 2023. They will take place from January 20 to 29. This will be the first disabled Nordic skiing event organized under the banner of the FIS, the international body overseeing Paralympic snow sports activity since the start of the year. It was until then supervised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Originally, it was planned to bring together the disciplines of Nordic, alpine skiing and snowboarding at the 2023 Para Snow Sports Worlds, in the Swedish region of Jämtland. But the event was canceled after the IPC decided to transfer responsibility for the Paralympic disciplines to the FIS. In Östersund, the 2023 Worlds will offer cross-country skiing and biathlon events. The two sports are now in the hands of two different international federations, the FIS for cross-country skiing, the IBU for biathlon.
