Belgrade has secured a big win. The Serbian capital will host the European Running Championships in 2027. This will be the second edition of the continental event, which will debut on 12-13 April 2025 in Brussels-Leuven, Belgium. The decision was made on Wednesday 23 October, on the first day of the European Athletics Council meeting in Skopje, North Macedonia. Belgrade is the only city to have hosted the European (2017) and World (2022) Indoor Athletics Championships, the European (2013) and World (2024) Cross-Country Championships. The European Running Championships are scheduled for 17-18 April 2027. They will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Belgrade Marathon. The programme includes a 10 km, half marathon and marathon, for elite runners who will compete for the title of European champion, but also for the general public. The organisers expect at least 25.000 participants for the three races.
