The movement is gaining momentum. At the initiative of the United States, the ski world is mobilizing to ask its international body to intensify its efforts to fight global warming. An open letter has been circulating since the start of the Alpine Ski World Championships in Courchevel and Méribel (France). Prepared by the Protect Our Winters (POW) association, it was signed by 142 skiers from alpine skiing, but also from freestyle skiing and freeride. Among the signatories are most of the big names on the circuit, including the American Mikaela Shiffrin, the Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (photo above) and the Italian Federica Brignone. Submitted to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), the text warns of the dangers of global warming on winter sports activities and competitions. He asks the FIS to adjust its calendar, by delaying the opening of the World Cup and reducing international travel, particularly from one continent to another. It also calls on the FIS to respect its commitment, announced in 2021, to halve its carbon footprint by presenting a concerted plan before the start of next season to achieve this objective. Comment from Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde: “ I want to continue doing what I love, we have to do our best to keep it going, but I also want future generations to be able to do it. The letter given to the FIS addresses a subject that we must keep in mind throughout our lives"
