Coincidence of the calendar: less than a week after France and Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, another future host country of the Olympic Games in turn has a new Minister of Sports. Anika Wells, 36, has been appointed head of Sports in the government led by the new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese. A native of Queensland, she is a member of the Labor Party. Her appointment comes at a historic moment for Australian sport, with the successive organization over the next ten years of the Women's Basketball World Cup, the Road Cycling Worlds, the Women's Football World Cup, Commonwealth Games, the men's and women's Rugby World Cups, and finally the Summer Games in Brisbane in 2032. Anika Wells joins the most female government in the country's history, with thirteen women in ministerial positions.
