Andorra did not appreciate

Ski

Once again rejected by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) for the organization of the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2029, the principality of Andorra is taking its failure poorly. In a press release published two days after the vote of the Council of the body, which preferred Narvik in Norway for the 2029 edition and Val Gardena in Italy for the next one in 2031, the leaders of the Andorran project do not hold back their criticism. “Politics and the clash between two large blocs of the FIS, on the one hand the countries favorable to the president of the international body, Johan Eliasch, and on the other his opponents, ended up penalizing the Andorran candidacy, they write. Although the technical management of the FIS has repeatedly expressed the very high level of the Andorran proposal, and the athletes themselves, the teams, the sports family and even the media have done so, the verdict has been resounding and the file evaluation is put back in the background. » The press release suggests that the principality located in the Pyrenees, between France and Spain, could give up for a time its ambition to host the world's alpine skiing elite. “It is time to reflect and wait for the FIS to truly commit to change, continues the text. Currently, there was a current of revival, but it did not receive the support of the majority (...) The vote reflects a context in which, rather than voting for the best proposal, it has moved towards a camp to support. This was based more on personal struggles and egos than on technical criteria and the values of the sport. It's a shame."
