The eSports Olympics are slowly approaching, but the levels of understanding and engagement with these new disciplines are still very disparate. In France, Sylvie Le Maux, vice-president of the CNOSF in charge of eSports under the previous mandate, therefore created a “Sport-eSport Club” to bring together eSport representatives from federations. About ten people participated in the first meeting in June, and a second will be held in early July. The objective: to share information and experiences to enable everyone to better understand and integrate eSports.
The diversity of profiles of the federations having expressed interest – sailing, rowing, chess, shooting, basketball, cycling, table tennis, dancing, football, rollerblading, skiing, motor sports, gliding and even pétanque – demonstrates the relevance of this initiative according to Sylvie Le Maux. There are different levels of acculturationshe confides to Francs Jeux. Some are very advanced and already have eSport licenses, so they can explain how they did it so that others can better project themselves and consider this opportunity. Through this Club, we will make the connection between sport and eSport. »
The chief of staff at the French Dance Federation explained a few days earlier on LinkedIn that eSport was " a sector which deserves to be understood, supported and structured " She believes that " today, the conditions are right to collectively build an ambitious and responsible approach, at the crossroads of digital, sport, culture, education and innovation ».
