An audit to fight against doping

UCI

Times are changing at the UCI. Now chaired by the Englishman Brian Cookson, the International Cycling Union has decided to launch an audit on the effectiveness of its anti-doping measures and to reduce its boss's remuneration by a quarter. A “complete audit of the control procedures used within the framework of UCI anti-doping operations to ensure their effectiveness” will soon be launched. The steering committee also agreed on “the general principles which will govern the establishment of an independent Commission” responsible for examining whether the previous leaders of the UCI protected Lance Armstrong. Finally, it was decided to reduce the emoluments of its president to 340.000 Swiss francs (275.000 euros), or 110.000 francs less (90.000 euros) than the total remuneration to which he could claim. The Federation has appointed a new director general, Briton Martin Gibbs, a lawyer by training who had led Brian Cookson's presidential campaign.
