An armchair for four

Sailing

Battle looms for the presidency of the International Sailing Federation (World Sailing). Unlike most bodies in the Olympic movement, the incumbent will not be the only candidate. No fewer than three candidates stand in the way of the Chinese Quanhai Li, elected in November 2020 for a first four-year term. The election is scheduled for the World Sailing general assembly on November 9, 2024 in Singapore. To keep his position as president, Quanhai Li will have to push aside the Ukrainian Rodion Luka, the Canadian Ben Remocker and the Belgian Philippe Rogge. Rodion Luka, 51, was a four-time Olympian, winning a silver medal in the 49ers at the Athens Games in 2004. Ben Remocker, 55, an Olympian in the 49ers at the Beijing Games in 2008, was the coach of Canadian windsurfers at the London Games in 2012. As for Philippe Rogge, 54, former CEO of Vodafone Germany, he is none other than the son of Jacques Rogge, the former IOC president (2001 to 2013), who died in August 2021.
