Unpublished. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announces that it has entered into a four-year memorandum of understanding with the World Health Organization (WHO). Signed in Geneva by the President of WADA, the Pole Witold Bańka, and the Director General of the WHO, the Ethiopian Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (photo above), it will end on October 1, 2027. Objective: to enable experts from both international organizations to collaborate and share information on issues where anti-doping and public health intersect. In detail, the agreement revolves around five themes: prevention and assessment of health risks associated with the consumption of psychoactive substances and related disorders, with an emphasis on doping compounds and substance consumption among athletes; raising awareness and advocacy for clean sport and substance abuse prevention worldwide; raising awareness through educational initiatives with the support of ambassadors and influential figures; collaboration on substandard and falsified medical products; and finally a report on the abuse and misuse of falsified and substandard medical products in sport. This formal agreement between WADA and WHO follows a first meeting between the two organizations, in April 2023 at WHO headquarters in Geneva.
