The evening of African Olympic Awardswill take place in Algiers on March 15. The event will be held on the sidelines of the ANOCA Elective General Assembly, who will reappoint Mustapha Berraf as president. The ceremony will be chaired by Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui and will reward nine personalities who distinguished themselves during the year 2024, and more particularly at the Paris Olympic Games. The Botswanan Letsile Tebogo, crowned in the 200m, will be crowned best male athlete, and the KenyanFaith Kipyegon, in gold over 1500 m and silver in the 5000m, best female athlete. The most promising athlete prizes will be awarded to the Algerian Kaylia Nemour (18 years old), gold medalist on uneven bars in Paris, and Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi (20 years old), who won the Olympic title in the 800 meters and clocked the second best time of all time over the distance (1'41″11).Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, whose Olympic title sparked controversy, will receive the Grand Prize for Resilience and Effort in women. The prize will go to the Egyptian Ahmed El-Gendy, Olympic modern pentathlon champion, in the men's category. On the coaches' side, Emerse Faé, who led Côte d'Ivoire to the title ofAfrican football champion, and Rena Wakam, who guided the Nigerian women's basketball players to the quarter-finals of the Olympic tournament, will be rewarded. The African Recognition Trophy, finally, will go to IOC President Thomas Bach.
