The successful experience of the 2022 European Multisport Championships in Munich (August 11 to 21) gave ideas to the International Canoe-Kayak Federation (ICF). The body chaired by the German Thomas Konietzko makes no secret of it: it has actively sought out international multi-sport events to integrate one or other of its disciplines. The ICF has officially submitted its bid for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Australian Victoria, an event that judo and rowing are also eyeing. She is campaigning with Paddle Australia for the addition of offshore racing. The body has also started discussions to join the program of the Mediterranean Games in 2026 in Taranto, Italy. As for the Commonwealth Games in 2026, the ICF is pushing one of its non-Olympic disciplines, ocean racing, canoe polo or Stand-Up Paddle (SUP). Common objective of these two applications: to offer non-Olympic disciplines better exposure to make themselves known to the public and the media.
