The climate is calm between the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the organizers of the Tokyo Games in 2020. According to Brian Cookson, its president, the UCI is on the verge of accepting the Japanese proposal to move the site of the track cycling, mountain bike and BMX events from Tokyo, where they were planned in the application file, to the city of Izu, located more than two hours by train from the capital. Decided by the Japanese organizers to reduce the cost of the Games, this change was initially rejected by the UCI. But a series of meetings, the last date led by Brian Cookson with Thomas Bach and John Coates, the president of the IOC coordination commission for the 2020 Games, changed the position of the world cycling authority. “I am optimistic, a solution should be found in the coming weeks,” assured the British leader Associated Press.
