A vote behind closed doors

IOC

The picture is taking shape. After announcing the order of candidates for the IOC presidency for the grand oral in front of the members, on January 30, 2025 in Lausanne, the Olympic body published the rules of the race, for this single presentation but also for the vote. For the ballot, scheduled for the 144th session from March 18 to 21, 2025 in Greece, it was decided that everything would take place behind closed doors. With seven candidates in the running, several rounds will be organized, until one candidate obtains the absolute majority of votes. Classic. In each round, the last of the group will have to step aside. The announcement of the name of the new IOC president will be made live, after the reopening of the doors of the room, at the end of the last round of voting. His or her mandate will begin on June 24, 2025, the date of the effective departure of Thomas Bach from his office at Olympic House. For the January 30 presentation, each of the seven candidates will have only 15 minutes, with an additional 15 seconds of leeway.
