Two-speed coverage

Jeux de la Francophonie

Nearly two months after the end of the event, the International Committee of the Games of La Francophonie (CIJF) has drawn up a quantified assessment of the media impact of the 2023 edition in Kinshasa, DRC (July 28 to August 6) . The CIJF's production of images from the sporting and cultural event, the most digital in history, seemed to hit its target, with more than 75 hours of live linear footage and 125 editorialized content available on the JDF.TV platform. In total, images from the 2023 Francophonie Games were broadcast by 27 television channels and multimedia platforms. Great breakthrough also on the CIJF social networks, with more than 2 million accounts reached on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, and 140 posts made, or nearly 15 posts per day. The event's YouTube channel offered 75 hours of live footage and recorded more than 600.000 views. The CIJF points this out in its assessment: two distinct periods emerge in the press coverage, with “ a clear shift between a negative tone preceding the Games then, from the opening ceremony, positive coverage. » He also notes that the media of non-African countries, primarily France and Canada, but also Wallonia Brussels, “ have not committed to the Games. The selected athletes were announced too late, and the announcement of withdrawals of teams from these northern countries obviously limited their media coverage in a very competitive context to one year. of the Paris 2024 Games.”
