The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is breaking new ground. It has announced the addition of a new event at the upcoming Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Championships, to be held from November 19 to 24, 2024 in Sarasota, Florida: a 100m sprint. It will replace the usual 200m race. Competitors will compete for 25 to 30 seconds, compared to nearly a minute for a 200m. They will paddle in lanes, with buoys on both sides, and a photo finish system is planned to ensure fair judging. The ICF also explains that the SUP World Ranking for 2024 is now available, also open for the first time to junior and master categories. Athletes have started to accumulate points during the 2024 ICF SUP World Ranking Series. They began in April in Lago delle Nazioni, Italy, before continuing to Villach and Lake Faak, Austria, then to Falkenberg, Sweden. The last stop before the World Championships in Sarasota is scheduled for Agios Nikolaos, Crete, from September 27 to 29.
