A Sheikh for Asia

Football

By receiving the majority of votes at the Congress of the Asian Confederation of
Football (AFC), i.e. 33 votes out of 46, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al
Khalifa was elected president of Asian football. An election which is accompanied,
for the boss of the Bahrain Federation, a seat on the Committee
executive of FIFA. Sheikh Salman was elected after a campaign marked by
intrigues and controversies, clearly ahead of Yousouf Al Serkal of the Emirates
United Arabs (six votes) and the Thai Worawi Makudi (seven votes). The Australian
Moya Dodd was appointed vice president.
