Paradox. With seven candidates, the next election for the presidency of AIBA promises to be the most uncertain in history. But it will also be marked by a record number of countries excluded from the vote. No less than 57 national federations of the international boxing body, out of a total of 200, will not be able to participate in the ballot scheduled for December 12, 2020, the first day of the annual congress. They were declared ineligible by the AIBA Elections Commission. The cause is a default or delay in their annual contribution to AIBA. With more than 25% of national federations excluded from the vote, the presidential election will have even more of a lottery feel. Nine Caribbean countries, in particular, will not be able to comment on the choice of the future president. A situation which will not suit the only candidate from the region, the Dominican Bienvenido Solano. As a reminder, the six other candidates are the Azeri Suleyman Mikayilov, the Emirati Anas Al Otaiba, the Russian Umar Kremlev, the German Ramie Al-Masri, the Dutchman Boris Van der Vorst, and the Moroccan Mohamed Moustahsane, current president by interim.
