A facelift for Penrith. The canoe-kayak slalom river built for the Sydney Games in 2000, the first artificial facility used for Olympic competitions, will benefit from a vast renovation operation. The authorities of the state of New South Wales announced on Tuesday February 21 that they had released funding of 3,1 million Australian dollars (2 million euros at current prices) to modernize the whitewater stadium , in view of the world championships planned for Penrith in 2025. This financial effort is in addition to the grant of 3,6 million dollars already allocated by the state authorities to improve the timing system of competitions in Sydney International Regatta Centre, located right next to the slalom river. The aquatic complex hosted the canoe sprint events at the 2000 Sydney Games.
