The only candidate to have submitted its application before the deadline of September 15, the English city of Birmingham believed it had won the race to organize the indoor world championships in 2016. But the IAAF granted additional time to Portland, capital of Oregon, United States, to apply. The choice will therefore be made between the two cities, during an IAAF vote, scheduled for November 15. As a reminder, the 2014 Indoor Worlds will be held in Sopot, in the suburbs of Gdansk, Poland.
