National recognition for Julien Alfred. The Olympic champion in the 100m at the Paris 2024 Games will soon have a day in her name and in her glory, celebrated every year in her native country, Saint Lucia. The authorities of the Caribbean island have announced that September 27 will now be “Julien Alfred Day”. The decision was made by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre. Originally from the capital of Saint Lucia, Castries, Julien Alfred was spotted at her school by the school’s librarian. She completed her secondary studies in Jamaica, before joining the University of Texas, where she trains with American coach Edrick Floreal. According to a government spokesperson, the sprinter is due to arrive in Saint Lucia on September 24. She will be celebrated by the authorities and the population until her departure on September 29. Her 100m gold medal at the Paris 2024 Games was Saint Lucia's first in any metal at the Olympics.
