A Great Britain/United States alliance

United States

Good news for Los Angeles 2024? According to the agency AP, the American (USOC) and British (BOA) Olympic committees are in very advanced discussions to create in the near future a multi-sport competition pitting the two countries against each other in odd years. Modeled after the Ryder Cup in golf, it could involve a dozen sports, including athletics, swimming, cycling and rowing. It would take place alternately in the two countries. The first of these confrontations could take place as early as 2019. It would be part of the preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Games. The leaders of the USOC and the BOA must meet around a table in the month next in New York to finalize the project. Audiovisual groups Eurosport et NBC would already be involved in discussions between the two organizations. As a reminder, the United States and Great Britain took the first two places in the medal rankings at the Rio 2016 Games.
