A first in the virtual world

Climbing

Sport climbing is in turn launching into the virtual world. The international federation of the discipline (IFSC) announces the organization next month of a distance competition, called “Connected Speed Knockout”, where around fifty specialists will challenge each other on speed walls. It is scheduled to take place on Sunday August 2, 2020 in seven different locations, spread across the planet. Athletes will represent nine countries: Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Poland and Russia. The competition will be broadcast live on the IFSC YouTube channel and Facebook page. The final phase of the competition will bring together the 16 best climbers. It will be contested by direct elimination, according to the same principle as for a normal stage of the Speed World Cup. With the time difference, the competition will take place on the night of August 2 to 3 in Japan, the day on which the climbing events at the Tokyo Games will begin a year later.
