The organizers of the 2021 World Games, initially scheduled for July 15 to 25, 2021 in Birmingham, Alabama (United States), had no choice: the one-year delay of the Tokyo 2020 Games forced them to postpone one year their multisport event. The announcement was made on Thursday April 2: the next World Games will take place a year later, almost to the day, between July 7 and 17, 2022, in the same city in the south of the United States. In 2022, the two multisport events on the world calendar will therefore both take place in Birmingham, but on two different continents. Birmingham, Alabama, for the World Games, and Birmingham, England, for the Commonwealth Games. This last meeting is still scheduled for July 27 to August 7, 2022, but the postponement of the World Athletics (Eugene) and Swimming (Fukuoka) championships the same year could force the British organizers to review their dates.
