Just over three years before the Paris 2024 Games, Algerian sport is picking up the pace. Representatives of twelve sports federations were gathered at the end of last week around the Secretary of State for Sports, Salima Souakri, to work on a plan for detecting young talents in the run-up to the Olympic Games in France. The twelve targeted sporting disciplines are judo, karate (not present at the Paris 2024 Games), boxing, sailing, rowing, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, taekwondo, wrestling, athletics and weightlifting. Objective: detect and train around a hundred young boys and girls, aged 14 to 20. The hopes of Algerian sport will be supervised and financially supported, for the next four years, within the various national regrouping and preparation centers. In the shorter term, they could represent Algeria next year, at the 2022 Mediterranean Games which are to be held at home, in the city of Oran.
