Nice blow for the IOC. The Olympic institution had the UN adopt the principle of an International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, organized every year on April 6, the day of the opening of the first Games in Athens in 1896. It will be celebrated by UN Member States and other partner organizations. A decision which reinforces the role of the IOC as an important actor in the peace process.
