A Chesterman–Stockwell match

Australia

There will be two of them. Two men for one chair. The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has confirmed: Ian Chesterman and Mark Stockwell will compete on Saturday April 30 to succeed John Coates as president of the body. At 71, John Coates is retiring after a 32-year tenure at the head of the AOC. His successor will be known at the end of the elective general meeting. Ian Chesterman (photo above) is already in the position, as he is vice-president of the AOC. He was the chef de mission of the Australian delegation to the Tokyo 2020 Games. Ian Stockwell, a real estate developer by profession, is the former vice-chairman of the Australian Sports Commission. He led Gold Coast's bid for the Commonwealth Games to victory in 2018. A former swimmer, he won three gold medals at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984. His wife, former swimmer Tracy Caulkins, chairs the Australian Swimming Federation (Swimming Australia) and sits on the Board of Directors of Brisbane 2032.
