A New Zealander as performance director

World Rugby

World Rugby trusts New Zealand expertise. Normal. The international body announces that it has recruited Joe Schmidt for the position of director of rugby and performance. The New Zealand technician is 55 years old. He notably coached in Europe, in Clermont (France) and Leinster (Ireland), before taking charge of the destiny of the Irish selection for six years, during which he brought the country to first place in the world rankings and won six trophies in the VI Nations Tournament. Joe Schmidt resigned as Ireland coach following the 2019 World Cup in Japan. He will take up his role at World Rugby at the beginning of November. He will be responsible for imagining and developing new avenues of reflection on the game at the highest level, but also on coaching, player health, management and training.
