A France-Austria match for 2023

Ski

The die is cast. The International Ski Federation (FIS) has announced: two files are in the running for the organization of the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2023. The first is French, it involves the Savoyard resorts of Méribel and Courchevel. The second, carried by Austria, proposes to organize the event in Saalbach and Hinterglemm. France has no longer hosted the Alpine Ski Worlds since Val d'Isère in 2009. In Austria, the resorts of Saalbach and Hinterglemm had already served as the setting for the competition in 1991. Two competing files are also in the running for the Worlds Nordic skiing in 2023: Planica in Slovenia and Trondheim in Norway. A briefing for the four candidates will be organized by the FIS at the end of May in Slovenia. The final decision is expected to be made next year at the International Federation Congress in Greece.
