A call to academics to advance research on players' health

Who will receive World Rugby grants? The federation has launched a call for applications to support projects in research on players' healthA way to advance knowledge and consider new approaches to protect athletes.

She cites several areas of interest: the concussions, injury prevention at all levels, research on the health of female players and in particular knee injuries, the participation of transgender people, the fight against doping, mental health as well as the long-term health consequences of playing rugby. Applications are accepted until May 1st. They will be reviewed by independent academic expertsMembers of World Rugby's scientific committee. The selected projects will be confirmed at the end of the year.

« It was research conducted by World Rugby that led to the recommendation to adopt a reduction of tackle height in amateur rugby and the use of connected mouthguards as part of the HIA protocol in our elite sport, recalls World Rugby's chief executive, Alan Gilpin. I encourage any academic or group of academics with the ambition to conduct rugby-specific research to consider applying for our research grants. »
