World Rowing points out technical problem with Brisbane 2032 site

Rowing

The State of Queensland presented its Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Infrastructure Plan. The authorities therefore plan for rowing to take place on the water of the Fitzroy River, in Rockhampton. The site already hosts "practices, local regattas, state championships, and also serves as a training camp for the national team", justifies the government, which intends to carry out modernization works in view of the Games. The International Rowing Federation has, however, noted a downside. In a press release, it notes that the Fitzroy River has "not been the subject of a technical feasibility study which would confirm its ability to host national or international level races. Contrary to what has been said, it has not hosted a National Senior Championship or an Australian Rowing Championship. »

Recalling that "any course used for international races must comply with the racing rules and technical requirements", World Rowing stands ready to participate in an evaluation "in order to enable a decision that will satisfy all stakeholders".The Australian Rowing Federation expressed the same view, recalling that "athletes make enormous sacrifices to make their country proud on the biggest stage, so it is essential that we give them the opportunity to perform in the best possible racing conditions.".
