Last December, World Boxing announced that it was killing two birds with one stone by organizing its congress as well as the World Cup finals in New Delhi. The IF has, however, revised its plans: while the competition will take place as planned, in India, from November 17 to 22, the congress will instead be held in Rome. World Boxing and the Indian federation (BFI) took this decision together according to the WB press release, specifying that the congress was now set for November 23 in the Italian capital. This congress is of great importance since it will allowelect Boris van der Vorst's successor, who decided not to seek re-election as president.
Boxing Federation of India president Ajay Singh clarified that " This decision was motivated by logistical factors " and that this relocation to Italy will facilitate the participation of delegatesWorld Boxing Acting Secretary General Mike McAtee added: " The World Boxing Congress is one of the most important events in the calendar and, after discussions with the BFI, we have reached a mutual agreement to separate it from the upcoming World Cup Finals, which will take place around the same time. We would like to thank the Italian Boxing Federation for offering to host the congress and are confident that it will be a fantastic event and a great opportunity for the global boxing family to come together again. »
