World Boxing is moving forward. The new Olympic boxing body, a competitor to the IBA, has found a host city for the first edition of its world championships. It will take place next year in Liverpool. The event is scheduled for September 4-14, 2025 at the M&S Bank Arena. It will involve 10 weight categories, for both men and women. They will be specified at the end of the year following the next World Boxing congress. The 2025 world championships in Liverpool will be the first to bring together male and female boxers, the IBA having a habit of separating the two competitions in the senior category. Created in April 2023, World Boxing currently has 44 member countries, on five continents. The body chaired by the Dutchman Boris van der Vorst hopes to quickly obtain recognition from the IOC, an essential step in trying to secure boxing's place at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
