Wenger to lead player welfare group

Football

Work for Arsène Wenger. The former Arsenal coach, now employed by FIFA as director of global football development, will head a new working group. Its mission: to think about the well-being of players. Quite a program. It will bring together representatives from federations, confederations, FIFPRO, the European Club Association and the World Leagues Association. Arsène Wenger will have to work to ensure that everyone speaks the same language in order to implement "effective protections for players, taking into consideration a number of practical aspects such as operational, medical, regulatory and legal issues." The working group's recommendations will be supported by the latest scientific research on the physical and mental well-being of players. FIFA reiterates in a press release that this initiative is in line with the new statutes of the body, adopted at the Bangkok Congress last May, which came into force two months later.
