Weightlifting extends its partnership with the ITA

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has renewed its partnership with the International Control Agency (ITA) for a new four-year Olympic cycle, up to 2028Weightlifting appears to be the second sport most affected by doping, behind athletics, according to figures collected by the Movement for Credible Cycling (MPCC). The organization had recorded 52 cases of doping among weightlifters between January 1 and September 30, 2024, as much as over the whole of 2023 and 67 in 2022. A problem which had opened a debate on maintaining discipline at the Olympic Games“Since delegating all of its anti-doping activities to the ITA in 2019, the IWF has made major reforms, strengthening the integrity of weightlifting and securing its position in the Olympic programme.”, the federation welcomed in a press release. « Weightlifting has definitely changed from the moment we partnered with the ITA, and it was essential for our credibility and growth as an Olympic sport, underlines IWF President Mohammed Jalood. We are now a respected international federation which has made a structural change in the way it approaches this essential area."
