Virtual World Championships return in February

Rowing

The rowers' calendar is taking shape. The next virtual World Rowing Indoor Championships will take place in the second half of February 2026, announced World Rowing. Three new formats will be on the program, the 1.000m, the 5.000m and the one-minute race, to offer an attractive competition and encourage broad participation. In addition to this virtual event, the IF plans another Indoor World Championship in 2026, but this time bringing all participants together in one place, in the 500 m and the 2.000 m.

« Indoor/connected rowing has experienced a remarkable evolution, evolving from a training tool into a dynamic global sport in its own right, notes Filip Ljubicic, chairman of the World Rowing Indoor Rowing Commission. The 2026 Virtual World Rowing Indoor Championships will allow athletes from around the world to to compete on equal terms, while we plan to hold an in-person event later in the year. This dual approach reflects both the inclusive nature and ambition of indoor/connected rowing. » Further details on competition formats and dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
