Le World Triathlon Congress met in Wollongong (Australia) following the World Championships. It approved the accession of East Timor and Albania as full members, as well as the inclusion of the Balkan Triathlon Association as an associate member. It also decided to lift the suspension of Pakistan and expel three inactive national federations from the British Virgin Islands, Seychelles, and Myanmar.
A large majority of World Triathlon members voted in favor the integration of two new disciplines: Fitness Racing, who are " a multi-sport competition format developed and launched by the international fitness brand HYROX » as well as the Swimrun, which follows the format of the Swedish race Ötillö, which means "from island to island." World Triathlon, already accustomed to working with private organizers, hopes to continue its growth and reach a wider audience in this way.
President Antonio F. Arimany insisted on " the exciting new opportunities we have explored over the past twelve months » and on those that present themselves: « I am pleased to note that the vast majority of members support our willingness to explore these new avenues. We have the possibility of become a world leader in new sporting areas, but our success will depend on the strength of our visions and our ability to implement them in unity. »
