Turin 2025 will open its doors to Paralympic athletes

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) is innovating. For the first time in history, Paralympic student athletes will be invited to compete at the World University Winter Games in Turin in 2025. The announcement was made by the organizing committee, but without specifying the number events and competitors concerned. The plan to include Paralympic athletes was already included in the candidacy file of the capital of Piedmont. Milan Augustin, director of the Winter Games at FISU, explains this in a press release: “ This is the result of two years of work with the organizing committee and FISU. This is a historic day for the entire university sports movement. We hope to increase the number of disciplines and participants in future editions. » The World University Games in Turin will take place from January 13 to 23, 2025. FISU is organizing its 38th general assembly this weekend in Geneva (November 17 and 18). It will be marked by reports on the preparation of the next three editions of the World University Games, Rhine-Ruhr 2025 and Chungcheong 2027 for the summer, Turin 2025 for the winter. Also on the agenda is the election of the executive committee of the body for the period 2023-2027, including the position of president. The function is currently carried out, on an interim basis, by the Swiss Leonz Eder. He took his place in the seat left vacant by Oleg Matytsin, the current Russian Minister of Sports.
