Surfing competitions of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games will take place at Trestles. The site, which was in balance with Huntington Beach, was confirmed on Tuesday by the Organizing Committee. The best surfers in the world will therefore be able to express themselves on the waves ofa spot whose reputation is well established : Trestles hosted the World Surf League finals in September 2024 and will be on the world tour calendar again this year, in June.
“Following the incredible success of surfing at Teahupo'o, and speaking with many athletes from around the world, we knew that any solution for LA had to include the best waves for performance, and there is no doubt that this location is Trestles, says Fernando Aguerre, president of the International Surfing Association (ISA). This decision reinforces the current trajectory of hosting Olympic surfing in iconic ocean waves. Lowers' perfect peak provides a high-performance frame as no other in Southern California »
The ISA now knows what to expect at all levels since LA28 had validated, a few days earlier, the number of athlete quotas and informed that only shortboard would be on the program, despite the request to include longboard.
