Thomas Bach sets volleyball development strategy as a benchmark

FIVB

The Board of Directors of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) met last weekend in Lausanne. It thus validated the date of July 7 as World Volleyball Day, in reference to the first public demonstration of volleyball in 1895, approved the organization of a FIVB Medical Congress in 2026 and gave the green light to a test allowing beach volleyball coaches to coach directly on the court.

IOC President Thomas Bach took the opportunity to to salute the work carried out by the FI in recent years. Volleyball is truly one of the few international federations that has made a real difference in establishing a reference in the development of his sport during the last years, did he declare. On the field, you are much more competitive, more national federations have the opportunity to compete, to compete at a higher level and to obtain medals. " He also emphasized the FIVB's commitment to social responsibility.

« I think that the future of volleyball is very exciting, added Kirsty Coventry, who spoke in turn alongside Fabio Azevedo, the president of the federation. I agree with all the sentiments you just expressed: spreading sport, making it more affordable, more accessible to a greater number of people. And doing this while inspiring the younger generation to be healthier and more active is a huge priority for all of us. I look forward to walking this journey with you. »
