Thomas Bach highlights the role of the World Games

Thomas Bach will no longer be IOC president this summer, when the World Games (August 7-17). Despite everything, the former athlete wants to see his mission through to the end. He has therefore written a official letter, sent to all National Olympic Committees, to invite them to seize the opportunity represented by Chengdu 2025.

“With a record number of countries and territories participating this summer in Chengdu, an exciting program featuring 34 sports and 60 disciplines, and strong collaboration with the Chinese Olympic Committee, I am confident in the success of the twelfth edition », he wrote in this letter, shared by the International World Games Association (IWGA). “Today, we need the power of sport to bring us hope and optimism, but also to bring us together. I encourage NOCs to support this event. Sport continues to show us that if we are together, we can only...go faster, aim higher and become stronger"

The president of the IWGA, José Perurena, believes that "President Bach's words reaffirm what we have long known in the IWGA: The World Games are a vital part of the international sporting ecosystem. His message to the NOCs is one of powerful support and we are deeply grateful to the IOC for his continued trust." The IWGA expects athletes, officials and spectators from more than 110 countries in August.
