More than 45 000 votes were registered on the Panam Sports website to designate the best athletes on the continent over the past year. Shot putter Jessica Palacios (Ecuador) won the award in the women's category.

The Brazilian basketball team was named men's team of the year, and the Jamaican 4x100m relay team was named women's best team. The Sports Achievement Award was presented to Sisters Mía and Lía Cueva (Mexico), present at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore in diving. Their compatriot Valeria Páez, meanwhile, crushed the vote for the athlete influencer award with 53,35% of the votes, an award for having successfully combined sporting performances and visibility on social networks.
