A plebiscite. 96,2% of members of the International Obstacle Sports Federation (FISO) voted in favor of dissolution of FISO on Sunday. The organization recorded 3,8% abstentions and no votes against. On August 10, at the conclusion of the most recent FISO World Championships, the International Modern Pentathlon Union will therefore become the sole governing body for obstacle sports at the global level.

« I am delighted that the global obstacle sports community overwhelmingly supported the vote in favor of dissolution, which allows us to to continue our integration within the UIPM family and the unification of obstacle sports within the Olympic Movement " commented Ian Adamson, president of FISO, highlighting the " new opportunities offered to millions of athletes and their communities ».

The national federations currently affiliated with FISO will acquire the status of "candidates for membership in UIPM". A transition period has been defined, until December 31, 2027, to allow the integration processes to be completed at the national and regional levels. The UIPM being the only international federation recognized by the IOC which governs obstacle sports, the merger of these two sporting movements makes it possible to consider the integration of multisport pentathlon and autonomous obstacle sports into future Olympic Games " explains the statement published on Sunday.

For Rob Stull, this is a " historic moment that crowns more than a decade of hard work and collaboration The president of the UIPM continued: The unification of the pentathlon and obstacle course racing communities is now complete at the international level. We are on the verge of realizing our vision: to create the world's largest multi-sport federation. »
