Six athletes have been selected for the refugee team for the World Athletics Championships, Tokyo, September 13-21. Among them were Farida Abaroge, Perina Lokure Nakang and Musa Suliman, who were all at the Paris 2024 GamesEthiopian Abaroge (31) will run the 5000m while Kenyan Nakang (22) will compete in the 800m, as will Suliman (21) in the men's race. The Sudanese, who fled his country in 2015, will be competing in his first World Championships.
Marathon runners Omar Hassan (34), from Ethiopia, and Emmanuel Kiruhura Ntagunga, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as 5000m specialist Jamal Abdelmaji Eisa Mohammed, complete the team.
