The International Paralympic Committee is smiling. The IPC commissioned a study from the Nielsen Sports Institute on the Paris 2024 Games. This highlights numerous records in terms of audience and broadcastingThe event benefited from 12 hours of broadcasting, 48% more than at Tokyo 2020 and 154% more than at Rio 2016. The opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games, at Place de la Concorde, was followed by a cumulative TV audience of nearly 349,8 million people, a record, and 10% more than that of Tokyo 2020. The closing ceremony was watched by 193,6 million people, 40% more than the 139 million viewers of the Tokyo closing ceremony.
Athletics (1.648 hours of broadcasting), swimming (860) and table tennis (615) were particularly highlighted. Cumulative swimming audience reaches 1,3 billion people, slightly better than athletics (1,2 billion). The study also notes records in terms of cumulative audience in nine sports, including para rowing, which doubled its figures compared to Tokyo 2020. Other big winners: boccia (+70% audience), para taekwondo (+70%) and para archery (+68%).
