The International Tennis Federation (ITF) will become World Tennis in 2026. National tennis federations voted overwhelmingly in favor of this proposal during the ITF Annual General Meeting which was held on October 16. Players in the tennis world confirmed " the need for a name that more effectively reflects the importance of the organization's role and its relevance to the tennis ecosystem " during a long consultation phase. This new name will also allow World Tennis to align with most of the world's sports governing bodies.
The ITF, which has had its current name since 1977, will officially change its name to World Tennis on January 1, 2026. World Tennis better reflects who we are today : the world governing body and guardian of tennis, working hard with our members to promote lifelong tennis, says David Haggerty, president of the ITF. This development reflects our common ambition to strengthen, unify and develop this sport globally. We look forward to unveiling our new identity and more ambitious plans in the coming months. »
