The IOC says no to Greenland and the Faroe Islands

Denmark

The Danish Parliament's request will not succeed. The IOC announced that the athletes from Greenland and the Faroe Islands will have to continue representing Denmark at the Olympic Games. The question could legitimately be raised since some international federations recognize Greenland and the Faroe Islands. However, The IOC remains in its position Independent states, recognized by the international community, may send a delegation to the Games, but not the semi-autonomous territories.

« This position has been explained and communicated very clearly to the parties concerned on numerous occasions over the past few years. " says the IOC. The Faroe Islands are recognized by FIFA for over 30 years. Greenland, in particular, is recognized by the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
