Great recognition for Jessica and Noemie Fox, the two Australian canoe-kayak slalom specialists, Olympic champions at the Paris 2024 Games (kayak-cross for Noemie, on the right in the photo, C1 and K1 for Jessica, on the left). The New South Wales government has announced that the two sisters will have an island named after them at Penrith Whitewater Stadium, the slalom venue of the Sydney 2000 Games, where they grew up and discovered the discipline. The "Fox Island" will commemorate their Olympic exploits. The decision by the state government is part of the preparations for the canoe-slalom world championships in 2025, organized on the Penrith site, west of Sydney. "In recognition of the Fox family's outstanding contribution to the paddling community, the NSW Government has announced that the island at the heart of Penrith Whitewater Stadium will now be known as Fox Island," authorities explained in a statement.
